In 1956 Mr. Ebert Grero and Mrs. Chandra Peries gave birth to their 3rd child, a beloved son Mohan Lal Grero. He received his primary education at Royal College before being admitted to Ananda College in the year 1966, having come first in the entrance examination held for external students. At Ananda he was recognized as an extremely bright and zealous student, and was one among the ten best students with the highest aggregate in the entire island, in the advanced level examination of 1974.

Whist he performed brilliantly in his studies at Ananda, Mohan Lal Grero made a niche for himself as one of its finest public speakers ever, in Sinhala. In recognition of his outstanding abilities in public speaking, Mohan Lal Grero was selected to lead both the junior and senior debating teams at Ananda College. His skills in this sphere were such that on numerous occasions he won the all Island best speakers prize. He was also the President of the schools Science Society as well as the Sinhala Literary Society. Having entered the Moratuwa University in 1974 he graduated in 1980 with an Honours Degree in Engineering. Apart from academic and literary interests, Grero showed interest and skill in aviation and obtained his Pilot licence in 1986. He was also an excellent swimmer and deep sea diver, besides being a devout environmentalist who was always at peace with nature. In 1991, Mohan Lal Grero obtained the Executive Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Colombo where he was accredited with a Distinction pass for his efforts. During this course of study, he won the 'Professor Linus de Silva challenge Gold Medal' for Excellence in Business Report writing. In 1992 he completed the first stage of his MBA at the University of Colombo.

 

In 1993, Mohan Lal Grero took another giant step in his forays into education by creating the Lyceum International School. At a time when there were major concerns over the standard of discipline among children attending such schools, Mohan Lal Grero, undertook the onerous task of introducing an English education to students of middle class and lower middle class backgrounds and upbringing, whilst maintaining the highest standards of education in a truly Sri Lankan ambiance. Thus he successfully dispelled fears lot of parents had of declining standards of behavior in International Schools,and created a unique school which was affordable to parents of average income. Having begun initially with only seven students, the institution has grown in size with over 7,500 students in its four branches. His revolutionary vision of successfully introducing English education to children of middle class and lower middle class upbringing became so popular, that it encouraged many other eminent educationists in the country to nourish education there after through similar efforts of their own.

Because of a strong religious upbringing and due to his close association with the Wellawatte Dharmodaya Daham Pasela. Where he studied Buddhism extensively, he took to the teaching of the Dhamma in this school for a period of time. Despite being a staunch and practicing Buddhist, his sustentative knowledge and appreciation of all religions believed in the equality of all religions. Consequently, he saw the likeness in them more than their disparities. Hence he is a staunch believer not only in racial harmony, but also in religious harmony. And as a true believer in all that is good, he propagates loving kindness and benevolence through his actions and deeds. As an eminent educationist, who has traveled widely overseas explicitly for the purpose of studying systems of education overseas, he has acquired & extensive knowledge in methods & systems of education in other countries.
